GREY'S ANATOMY: NO GOOD AT SAYING SORRY (ONE MORE CHANCE) (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic medical series about the lives and loves of a group of surgeons at a Seattle hospital. In this episode, Izzie continues planning Meredith and Derek's wedding from her hospital bed and Callie admits that her family is still cutting her off entirely because of her relationship with Arizona, though Alex suggests that she simply lie and say that they have broken up. Mark distracts her with a "present": Willow, a young environmentalist who was knocked from a tree by a bulldozer while protesting deforestation and broke many bones. Izzie is alarmed when her ditzy mother Robbie arrives for a visit, and Richard summons both Lexie and Meredith and informs them that Thatcher is nearly a month sober and wants to make amends. They both listen to his apologies and Lexie seems moved, though Meredith is unimpressed. George continues working under Owen and a patient is brought in with multiple gunshot wounds inflicted, apparently accidentally, by his six-year-old daughter Maddy. Robbie chatters about other friends' non-serious experience with cancer, believing that Izzie has nothing more than a "little mole," and calls her psychic to ask about her daughter's wellbeing.

Lexie asks Mark to meet her father over dinner, though he seems uncomfortable with the idea, particularly considering their age difference. Meredith realizes that Maddy shot her father intentionally, and the mother, Kate, admits that the girl was trying to stop him from beating them both, as he often does. Kate urges Maddy to apologize to her father before he is taken into surgery, but Meredith angrily intervenes, pointing out that she should have protected her daughter rather than the other way around. Willow's sister Julie makes a deal with the construction company and tells Willow that they will not pursue legal action if she does not sue them or trespass again, but Willow remains adamant in her defense of the trees. Mark also advises Callie to lie to her family, and when Meredith reminds Richard that she does not want special treatment because of his relationship with Ellis, he chastises her for her unprofessional outburst and orders her to stay away from Kate and Maddy. Meredith confronts Derek about his friendship with Richard, declaring that she does not want him invited to the wedding. Callie continues working on Willow and points out to an angry Julie that her sister was remarkably brave to remain in the tree even when threatened with the bulldozer, but her condition then worsens and she is rushed to surgery.

Owen, George and Cristina continue operating on the father, and Cristina is offended when Owen sends her out of the OR for supplies. Robbie is devastated when Izzie finally explains the seriousness of her illness, and Bailey admits that it was she who called Izzie's mother as she performs another scan on her. Arizona praises Callie's compassionate attitude towards Willow, telling her that she will support her if she chooses to lie about their relationship. Robbie is overjoyed when Bailey reports that the scan shows good news, though she then privately tells Izzie that her condition has in fact worsened and new mets have grown. Derek points out that whatever he may claim, Richard considers Meredith to be family, and Meredith apologizes to Kate but asserts that she needs to "change Maddy's story." Julie chooses to support her sister and sue the construction company after all, and Callie decides that she cannot deny herself and lie about Arizona. Richard finds Meredith and admits that he was aware of Ellis and Thatcher's selfish behavior and states that he "should have fought for her" when she was young, as she did for Maddy. Izzie assures Robbie that she can head home, and Cristina accuses Owen of treating her as though she is "anyone else," but he confesses that he is "letting her off the hook" and repressing his love for her because of his guilt over hurting her. Kate informs her husband that she and Maddy are leaving him for good, and Mark nervously joins Lexie and Thatcher for dinner. Alex continues helping Izzie with the wedding plans as she prepares for another surgery, and Meredith packs up her mother's journals and decides to give them to Richard, telling Derek that he is welcome at the wedding after all.
