UNUSUALS, THE: THE E.I.D. {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The final episode in this darkly comedic series about a group of New York City police detectives and the bizarre cases they pursue.

In this episode, a married couple reports that an adult film has been shot in their home without their knowledge. Shraeger and Walsh try to help a woman, Abigail Allen, who claims that she was attacked on the street – but Walsh soon finds that she has invented the story and is a "serial accuser." Banks and Delahoy are pleased when Beaumont and a highly embarrassed Cole task them with watching hours of pornographic footage to look for clues about the break-ins; when Shraeger resolves to help the troubled Abigail, Walsh deemed her an "E.I.D.": emotionally involved detective. Banks questions Delahoy about his dalliance with Dr. Crumb, and when Shraeger visits Abigail, she learns that she "used to be" someone named Margot Stanford. Shraeger follows the lead and learns that Margot was a wealthy prep-school 16-year-old when she was abducted and assaulted by persons unknown and guesses that she is dealing with the unresolved trauma by inventing other tales of victimization.

Banks and Delahoy come up with six other addresses at which the break-in porn was filmed, and the residents receive the unsettling news with a wide variety of reactions. Learning that all of the pairs employ the same couples' counselor, Beaumont and Cole decide to go undercover to unmask the doctor's guilt. Shraeger determines that Abigail/Margot has been making accusations toward strangers who somewhat resemble her two high-school attackers; she sits down with Nicole Brandt, one of her upper-class "friends" from the past, who confirms that Margot's classmates Chris Treadwell and Will Slansky had a history of drug use and mistreating women.

Cole and Beaumont, or "Ted and Alice," sit down with Dr. Andre Zamacona to discuss their sexual dysfunctions, and when they casually mention that they are going out of town together, Zamacona seems to steal their house keys as they engage in a "therapeutic" exercise. Delahoy visits Crumb, who angrily reveals that she has been fired for assisting him and cannot maintain a relationship with someone with so little regard for his own health. Margot, still in denial about her past, claims not to know Treadwell or Slansky, but Shraeger nonetheless hauls them in for questioning. Treadwell, now a high-powered lawyer, refuses to talk, but Shraeger talks to a guilt-ridden Slansky about the ups and downs of their privileged, sheltered lives; he eventually confesses that his and Treadwell's rich parents helped them cover up their crime when they drugged and assaulted Margot years ago. Beaumont and Cole arrest the masked "filmmaker" at the fake apartment, though the mastermind is revealed to be one of the so-called break-in victims, a locksmith who has been stealing into Dr. Zamacona's office. Later, Shraeger visits Margot to tell her that her attackers have finally been caught, though Margot's denial seems too deep to be broken. Includes commercials and promos.
