KRAFT MUSIC HALL, THE: AN EVENING WITH BURT BACHARACH {DIONNE WARWICK, JOEL GREY, SACHA DISTEL} (TV)
Summary
This musical special honors songwriter Burt Bacharach, with help from several of his creative associates.
Bacharach opens the program with a medley of "What the World Needs Now is Love," "I Say A Little Prayer" and "What's New Pussycat?", and then introduces actor/singer Joel Grey, who performs "Anyone Who Had a Heart" and "This Guy's in Love With You." Bacharach acknowledges frequent collaborator and lyricist Hal David before introducing Dionne Warwick, who sings "What the World Needs Now is Love," and then joins Bacharach at the piano for a medley featuring "Walk On By," "I Say a Little Prayer," "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," "Don't Make Me Over," and "Make It Easy on Yourself."
French singer Sacha Distel joins Bacharach and sings "The Good Life," and then chats with Bacharach about their songwriting styles, explaining that he prefers a guitar over a piano for composing. Distel and Bacharach then perform "Toute La Pluie Tombe Sur Moi," the French version of "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head." Next, Bacharach and Warwick discuss the ins and outs of the songwriting process as they rehearse "Loneliness Remembers (What Happiness Forgets)", then perform the song with a backing orchestra. Grey performs "Bridge Over Troubled Water" in harmony with himself, and Grey and Bacharach banter about the early days of performing together. Grey then sings "What's New Pussycat?" Finally, Bacharach conducts an instrumental medley of his works, including "The Look of Love," "Bond Street," and "Reach Out for Me." Commercials deleted.
