ARMY WIVES: TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series, based on the non-fiction book by Tanya Biank, about the lives of several United States Army families living in North Charleston, South Carolina. In this episode, with General Baker still recovering from his aneurysm in the hospital, Lenore kisses up to Colonel Grayson and his wife Victoria, hoping to prove that her husband is still capable of his post, though Baker tells her that he has grown tired of the army. Undeterred, Lenore continues spreading rumors about Claudia Joy's past, exaggerating the story of her long-ago fatal car accident. Joan and Roland agree that Michael Holden will likely receive his long-overdue promotion, though Roland wonders what Joan's extended role as XO will mean for their family life. A stressed-out Pamela confronts a rude driver when he steals her parking space, and Lenore "lets slip" about Claudia Joy's torrid past while chatting with Victoria.
Claudia Joy resolves to "rise above" Lenore's petty rumormongering, but when Amanda overhears whispers questioning her own paternity, Claudia Joy and Michael decide to tell their daughters about the accident, explaining that they must "close ranks" and support each other through this uncomfortable period. A furious Michael blames Claudia Joy for the turmoil, suggesting that she "fired the first shot" with Lenore during their public confrontation months ago. Frank learns that he is soon to be deployed, and Denise urges him to make things right with Jeremy before leaving. Joan is stunned when Roland admits to having a one-night stand with another woman, and when Victoria asks Claudia Joy point-blank about the Bakers, Claudia Joy opts not to badmouth her rival. Pamela is embarrassed to learn that her parking-lot nemesis is actually Major Ned Casey, the base's new public affairs officer, and she's all the more surprised when he points out that she "knows how to talk" and offers her a spot on the army news radio.
While snooping in Grayson's office, Lenore spots a note addressed to Michael about the top-secret "Operation Windfall." At Roxy's urging, Pamela reconsiders Casey's offer and negotiates with him for childcare and travel expenses, adding that she wants a call-in show of her own for wives to discuss their issues. Frank finally visits Jeremy and demands to know why he hit his mother, and Jeremy struggles to explain that he was "just angry" because of the pressure of the army. Frank seems less than satisfied, but the two agree to move forward in mending the relationship. Michael apologizes to Claudia Joy, though when Joan offers to put Roland's indiscretion behind them to work on their marriage, he informs her that he's been unhappy for some time and wishes to separate. At Colonel Grayson's farewell party, Lenore slyly tells him that he can count on her husband's support for Windfall – and then finds herself seized by MPs for "breaching national security." Victoria visits Claudia Joy and reveals that she purposefully planted the file about the now-obsolete weapons project, knowing that the nosy Lenore would sabotage herself by peeking at it, and assures her that Michael will now receive the promotion he deserves. Pamela's first installment of "Have At It" is a success when several women phone in to chat about annoying bureaucratic problems, and she makes sure to urge her listeners to stop listening to unkind rumors about their fellows wives.
