CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM: THE TIVO GUY (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series in which producer/comedian Larry David plays a slightly exaggerated version of himself who often ends up embroiled in misunderstandings and social faux pas.

In this episode, a frightened Cheryl calls Larry from a turbulent airplane – but he is too busy bantering with a TiVo repairman to listen. Upon returning home, an angry Cheryl declares that she is leaving him, fed up with his selfish neuroses and inspired by a "soulful conversation" with her airplane seatmate, underwear CEO Glenn. Larry tells his friends about the shocking break-up, though Iris, the hostess at Primo's, is less understanding of his last-minute dinner cancellation. Larry confronts Simon, to whom he recently loaned $10,000, about his expensive birthday party, but Simon assures him that the funds were for something else entirely. He then disinvites Larry from the party, as he has "chosen" Cheryl in the split. Larry accidentally destroys Lucy Lawless' signed photo at the dry cleaners and promises to replace it; after getting into an argument with a chatty businessman at Primo's, he learns that the Funkhausers have also sided with Cheryl.

Larry learns that Cheryl is now dating Glenn, who runs the "No-Fly Zone Underwear" company and has a full head of "Kennedy hair." However, his luck turns when he successfully asks out Lucy Lawless after she signs a new photo for the dry cleaner. Ted Danson reveals that he, too, has sided with Cheryl. Larry suffers an embarrassing groin injury caused by his normal fly-included underwear. Larry takes Lucy to Primo's but is denied a table because the owner has also chosen Cheryl. When he admits his private injury to Lucy, she takes offense at his presumptuousness about their night together and storms off. He is then denied entry to Simon's private party and ends up squabbling with Richard Lewis, who is set to receive $10,000 – Larry's money – as the party's "special guest." Larry is forced to spend an evening alone with his TiVo, which is still misbehaving.
