CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM: THE ANONYMOUS DONOR (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series in which producer/comedian Larry David plays a slightly exaggerated version of himself who often ends up embroiled in misunderstandings and social faux pas.
In this episode, the Davids – and the Blacks – move into a new home, and Larry is annoyed when Loretta's brother Leon, who was not at all displaced by the hurricane, arrives to join them. Cheryl then finds a very personal kind of stain on a blanket, though Leon strongly denies being the culprit. Anna is amused when Larry brings the blanket to be dry-cleaned; when Larry finds that another customer has made off with his Yankees jersey, Anna dismisses it as "the unwritten law of dry-cleaning." Jeff casually admits to leaving the stain during a Passover dinner. Larry is further angered to find that Ted Danson, who has been flirting with Cheryl, has donated a wing to the Natural Resources Defense Council anonymously – though everyone apparently knows it was him. That leaves Larry, whose name is on the wall of his donated wing, looking as though he did so "for the credit."
Senator Barbara Boxer assures Larry that dry-cleaning theft always "balances out"; elsewhere, Ted informs Cheryl of Jeff's unseemly Passover act, prompting Cheryl to "ban" him from their home. Jeff is furious to learn of "yenta" Ted's actions, and Susie angrily bans Larry from her home in retaliation. Auntie Rae misunderstands Larry's harmless play with the Black children; Larry is amazed when Leon easily retrieves Larry's jersey when they spot a man on the street wearing the stolen item. Larry convinces Susie to temporarily lift the ban for a quick bathroom trip, after which he spots Merl Berger wearing his actual jersey. Merl invokes the "dry-cleaning law" and Larry furiously threatens to get Senator Boxer on the case; Merl then vows to have Larry's name removed from the NRDC wall. Susie finds a similar stain on Sammy's teddy bear, and Cheryl, overhearing only part of the argument, unwittingly names Ted as the "anonymous donor." Cathy praises Larry for donating the wing without his name attached, but when the first Yankee jersey guy spots Larry and chases him, Larry flees to the NRDC building – and is denied entry because his name is no longer on the wall.
