DEXTER: HUNGRY MAN (TV)
Summary
One in this crime thriller series, based on the books by Jeff Lindsay, about a forensics expert for the Miami-Dade Police who also happens to be a serial killer targeting criminals that the police can't bring to justice.
In this episode, Dexter watches from across the street as Arthur humiliates Jonah. After driving off in his father's prized car, Jonah bashes it with a baseball bat until Dexter intervenes. Jonah confides that he and his family members are constantly beaten -- physically and mentally -- by Arthur. Dexter agrees to attend the family's Thanksgiving dinner the next day so that Arthur will be on best behavior.
At police headquarters, Debra explains to Dexter that she's looking for the person who shot her, after realizing that it wasn't The Trinity Killer. She also tells Dexter that she'll continue her investigation on the holiday, as will LaGuerta, Batista, Masuka, and Quinn.
On the home front, Rita is less than happy to hear that her husband won't be home for the whole holiday, though Dexter doesn't reveal that he'll actually be at Arthur's house rather than work. Across town, Christine tries to entice Quinn into making time for "dessert."
The next day, Debra -- with Masuka as her guest -- stops by Rita's dinner, though Rita is preoccupied with her infatuated neighbor, Elliot. As Debra tells Masuka how much she misses Frank, Rita and Elliot end up kissing, which is observed by a shocked Masuka. Meanwhile, LaGuerta accompanies Batista to a next-of-kin notification, which leads to a rendezvous for the pair in which they declare their mutual love.
At the Mitchell home, Arthur is surprised by Dexter's arrival, as are Sally and Rebecca. When Jonah arrives home in the wrecked car, Dexter prevents Arthur from berating him. Later, Dexter asks Rebecca why her father locks her in her room. Arthur takes the opportunity away from Dexter to break Jonah's pinky finger. At the dinner table, awkwardness turns to violence between Arthur and Jonah. When Jonah smashes Vera's urn, Arthur tries to kill him, forcing Dexter to stop him. Ultimately, Dexter reveals his "inner monster" to Arthur.
Driving back to Rita's, Dexter tells Harry about his mistake. Harry questions if Dexter has become a danger to Rita, Astor, and Cody. As dinner is about to be served, Debra realizes that Christine knows more than she should about Frank's murder. However, Rita tries to pretend that they're having the "perfect" family dinner. Finally, Christine answers the door at her apartment and greets her father: Arthur, The Trinity Killer. Commercials deleted.
