DROP DEAD DIVA: GRAYSON'S ANATOMY (TV)
Summary
One in this Lifetime television drama series about overweight lawyer Jane Bingum, whose body plays host to the soul of a shallow fashion model. Stacy introduces Jane to a friend of hers whom she hopes Jane can help: Lina, a lingerie model whose company fired her over the revelation that she is a breast cancer survivor. Jane agrees to take the case to court, but Grayson takes over when she is saddled with the Hayes case. Stacy takes it upon herself to be Grayson’s assistant in the case, despite her lack of any legal knowledge. Grayson tries to argue the case, but the lingerie company spokesman counter-argues that Lina’s status as a breast cancer survivor would detract from sales. Grayson believes that the case is hopeless, but Stacy hatches a scheme to win the case; by inviting press photographers and displaying Lina wearing lingerie in court, Grayson manages to prove that Lina is still marketable and thus win the case. Meanwhile, Jane’s co-workers believe that Parker is planning on promoting a lawyer to the position of partner, and Teri thinks that Jane could be in the running. Parker gives her a case involving minor-league baseball pitcher Eric Hayes, who became unable to pitch due to a complication during surgery; he is suing his doctor for malpractice. Jane accepts the case and Parker puts her in charge, with Kim serving as her assistant, much to Kim’s frustration. Jane and Kim clash on their different legal strategies and the case appears to be going downhill. Eventually Kim offers an apology and obtains research information vital to winning the case, resulting in a huge boon for the law firm and much acclaim to Jane and Kim. Parker does not, as suspected, name anyone partner. Upon reviewing the evidence more carefully, Jane discovers that the entire trial was a scam thought up by both Eric and the doctor, who were in a relationship with each other and schemed to split the settlement money amongst them evenly. When she approaches Parker with this knowledge, Jane is told that to reveal this information would be a violation of legal ethics and could get her disbarred. Regardless, Jane manages to record a confession out of the doctor and sends the information to the district attorney, realizing that her career as a lawyer may indeed be over and that the time has come to begin a new life. Jane’s “lunch buddy,” Tony, starts showing a romantic interest in her, inviting her to spend the weekend with him at a bed and breakfast. Jane considers taking him up on his offer, but Stacy discovers that Grayson has been dreaming about Jane. Jane is torn between these two men, wrestling internally. The episode ends as she is about to make up her mind, when there comes a knock on her door and she is greeted by Ethan, a man claiming to be Jane’s husband.
