LIPSTICK JUNGLE: CHAPTER 8: PANDORA'S BOX {SEASON TWO PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about a trio of high-powered New York City businesswomen.
Wendy, Nico, and Victory attend a funeral and cannot help but burst out laughing. Five days earlier, Charles presents Nico with a nude photograph of her taken by Kirby, although it is shot from behind and he does not recognize her. She is quite distressed by this and tries to pretend that she does not recognize the photograph. She tells Wendy and Victory about the photograph and they recommend that she get rid of it somehow. Nico feels she must tell Charles the truth, hypothesizing that he might know about her affair with Kirby already and bought the photograph specifically to get her to tell the truth. Meanwhile, Wendy spots Maddie attempting to sneak into a bar with a fake I.D. and prevents her from entering. She takes her home and upbraids her for betraying her trust, vowing to supervise her more closely until she can prove herself to be more responsible. Wendy discusses the matter with Shane, who is uncertain of how to proceed. Joe visits Victory and she receives him coldly, giving him documentation about selling her company. He tries to explain away his recent affair and tries to get back together with Victory, although she is unwilling to do so. She introduces Joe to her new publicist, Dahlia Morales, to show how easily he has been replaced.
Nico find Kirby and expresses her anger that he put the nude photograph of her on display at the gallery. She tries to convince him to get the gallery to recall the photograph somehow, and he promises to help. Dahlia tries to convince Victory to get Joe involved in her business again, believing that his aid would be highly beneficial. Victory, however, is adamant that they will no longer consult Joe. They run into Nico and Victory has an argument with her about her decision to go see Kirby again. Dahlia eavesdrops and suggests that Nico could save her marriage by surgically altering her sexual organs, although neither Victory nor Nico are amenable to the idea. Wendy gets a call from her mother Joyce, who is staying in the city, and she is cajoled into letting Joyce stay at her house. Nico attempts to plan a romantic weekend with Charles, but he says he is too busy to consider it. She reconsiders Dahila’s offer and calls a cosmetic surgeon to set up an appointment, simultaneously accepting Wendy’s offer to come to a dinner with her mother in order to keep her relatively settled.
Wendy goes shopping at a farmer’s market with Joyce, who voices her opinion that Wendy is not paying enough attention to her business; Wendy believes that Maddie is in more need of attention at the moment. Dahlia finds a property for Victory that she feels she must have, but changes her mind when she learns that it is owned by Joe. Nico attempts to cancel coming to dinner with Wendy, as she has just had her surgery and is too sensitive to remain seated for any extended period of time. Nico explains that she did it in an attempt to reinvigorate her marriage to Charles, but Wendy believes that she would be better served by telling Charles the truth about her affair. That night, Nico attempts to seduce Charles, but he claims he is not in the mood. She finally tells him the truth about the photograph and her affair with Kirby. Charles is upset and storms off.
Victory and Dahlia argue about her refusal to rent property from Joe, and Dahlia accuses her of still being in love with Joe. Charles abruptly packs his bags, claiming that he requires further surgery on his heart. Nico blames herself for this occurrence, although Victory and Wendy do not believe that it is her fault. The three of them notice Charles’s student Megan in the hospital as well, and suspect that she is there to visit Charles. Nico confronts Megan and voices her suspicions about her presence; when pressed, Megan claims that Charles intends to leave Nico and run off with her, and that she is pregnant with his child. Nico is stunned by this news and silently leaves. Distressed, she roots through her apartment and discovers a number of photographs of her and Kirby, apparently taken by a private detective. At that moment, Charles’s doctor calls Nico to inform her that Charles has died due to complications from his surgery.
Nico prepares to attend Charles’s funeral, although she is highly distraught and discombobulated. Victory and Wendy attempt to help her, and Nico reveals that she found evidence that Charles was attempting to sue her for abandonment so he could divorce her and force her to pay alimony, in addition to the affair he had with Megan, which had apparently been going on for several years. Eventually Victory and Wendy manage to calm Nico down and the three of them attend the funeral together, greeting the other attendees at the door. Among them is Kirby, who stops by very briefly to express his condolences. After the funeral lets out, Nico asks to be left alone for a while. As she is walking away, Victory runs into Joe and she tries to dismiss him and keep going, but he is persistent. He admits that he called Dahlia to get her to show Victory his properties. He wants to get back together with her, but she denies that she wants the same and claims that she only wants a “business relationship.” She ultimately decides to lease his property regardless of its ownership.
At home, Wendy expresses dissatisfaction with her mother’s constant criticism and says that they have different goals and desires concerning their families. Joyce concedes this point, although she says she once thought very similarly to her. She admits that she is frustrated at her missed opportunities and felt belittled recently at one man’s suggestion that she open a small business of her own. For the moment they decide to simply spend time with each other. Commercials deleted.
