CARA WILLIAMS SHOW, THE: VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF WIFE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a young couple trying to keep their relationship a secret at work, where policy dictates that husband-and-wife teams will not be employed.

In this episode, Cara explains to Mr. Burkhardt that she was late for work because of arguing with "an old sourpuss" in the cafeteria. In addition, she admits that hair care delays her almost every morning. She's then warned that Mr. Phillips and Mr. McAvie -- two company "hatchet men" -- are in the building to check the bookkeeping. Later, Mary suggests to Cara that a wig might help get her to work on time, an idea which Frank supports.

On her lunch hour, Cara is told by a wig salesman that her natural red hair should be replaced by a brunette wig, which Cara ultimately purchases. Wearing it upon her return to the office, she receives over-the-top compliments from Frank, Mary, and Mr. Burkhardt within minutes. That night, Frank exhibits increased romantic feelings when Cara dons the wig, which she soon comes to resent. Those feelings intensify the next morning when Fletcher doesn't even recognize Cara in her wig.

Back in the cafeteria, wig-wearing Cara has a nasty run-in with Mr. McAvie, forcing her to flee the room. Accordingly, Cara is alarmed when she has to bring files to Mr. McAvie's office. However, Mr. McAvie doesn't recognize Cara after she's removed her wig. Likewise, Mr. Phillips -- who turns out to be "old sourpuss" -- doesn't recognize Cara with her wig, having argued with "a silly redhead." As Cara goes back and forth between Mr. Phillips and Mr. McAvie, she switches looks after exiting each office, though she's ultimately caught by both men.

That night, Frank tells Cara that she was lucky to keep her job, as both men couldn't deny her resourcefulness. Finally, Frank confesses to his wife that he prefers her as a redhead, though she'll no longer get special treatment around the house. Includes commercials.
