SPECIAL EVENING WITH CAROL BURNETT, A (TV)

Summary

The finale of "The Carol Burnett Show," a series of comedy/variety programs featuring Carol Burnett. Burnett, Tim Conway, and Vicki Lawrence reminisce about past shows and introduce excerpts spanning the eleven years of the show. Highlights include the following: Burnett does her Tarzan yell; Burnett performs in duets with such guests as Liza Minnelli, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Ray Charles, Bing Crosby, Rock Hudson, Steve Lawrence, and Eydie GormŽ; in a comic skit, Burt Reynolds sings "As Time Goes By"; Burnett and Conway appear as Mrs. Wiggins and Mr. Tudball; Jimmy Stewart accompanies himself on the piano and sings "Ragtime Cowboy Joe"; in comic skits, Harvey Korman sings "They Call the Wind Maria" and Burnett sings "Come Rain or Come Shine," "The Lady Is a Tramp," and "You Light Up My Life"; movies are parodied, including "The African Queen" and "The Postman Always Rings Twice." Additional highlights include the following: Lawrence sings "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" and a spoof of a country-and-western song; Bing Crosby and Bob Hope appear in a restaurant skit; in his first sketch in the series, Conway performs the role of a sports commentator; a "Columbo" parody is featured; Dick Van Dyke appears in a comic sketch; Burnett and Lawrence appear as Eunice and her Mama in a new sketch where Eunice consults a psychiatrist, played by Craig Richard Nelson; the Ernie Flatt Dancers perform a modern dance number; bloopers and outtakes are included from previous shows featuring the regulars; and Burnett as the Cleaning Lady talks about why she is ending the show and sings her closing theme. Commercials deleted.
