The Paley Center for Media Announces Spring 2008 Season

New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA—The Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television & Radio) today announced details of its spring 2008 season, a rich event series that explores the impact of diverse forms of media-from early Electronovision recordings to online fan sites.
This spring season, the Paley Center also examines the creative process behind great entertainment, offering a range of events that give fans and media enthusiasts unprecedented access to the cast, creators, and executives behind great dramas and comedies.
"Have you noticed that whatever the subject-from politics to pop culture, from financial trends to fashion-the role that media plays in shaping our attitudes and influencing opinions is a very important part of the discussion? No surprise, then, that the spring series of programs at the Paley Center offers a diversity of subject and a wide range of special guests, all focused on media as a critical lens for looking at our lives and culture," said Pat Mitchell, president and CEO of The Paley Center for Media. "On our spring schedule are programs for every media consumer...those who enjoy evenings of conversation with TV's most popular actors, writers, directors, producers, or music composers and performers as well as those who are interested in the transformative changes in the media landscape and the impact on all aspects of life and work. Every program is designed to be entertaining and informative."
The Paley Center for Media: New York Events
This season, the popular Media as News & Views event series returns, beginning with an in-depth look at the iconic morning program The View, featuring all five dynamic hosts and executive producer Bill Geddie. The series continues with a topical discussion on how media covers female political candidates, from the breakthrough years of the seventies to today's presidential campaign with a distinguished panel that includes Gloria Steinem and Donna Edwards.
Web Media explores the Internet world, first with in "Click Critics,"-a panel of TV fan site leaders discussing the influence of critical communities online-and later with an appearance by the sketch comedy team Human Giant, who will preview the work they're doing for the Internet and MTV.
On the entertainment side, events include celebrations of the work of such iconic figures as Richard Burton, Glenn Gould, George Gershwin, Kay Swift, and Charles Strouse as captured on radio and television, with special guests ranging from Lauren Bacall and Kate Burton to Christine Ebersole. A unique series of evenings look back at classic programs from a new perspective: Dick Cavett provides live commentary on the legendary confrontation between Norman Mailer and Gore Vidal on his show; Bob & Chris Elliott and fellow media-savvy wit Keith Olbermann salute the work of radio greats Bob & Ray; and Petula Clark and Harry Belafonte reunite for the fortieth anniversary of the 1968 variety show that sparked a racial controversy.
Premieres this season include Masterpiece Classic's adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's My Boy Jack, with featured actress Kim Cattrall; an important Sundance Channel exclusive series, On the Road in America, which follows the travels of three students from the Arabic world across the U.S.; and the U.S. premiere of Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives presented in collaboration with the World Science Festival (worldsciencefestival.com). Documentary and film events this season include a celebration of Arts Engine's 10th Anniversary, and the 11th annual Urban Visionaries Film Festival, a unique festival curated by teens for teens.
The Paley Center for Media: Los Angeles Events
In Los Angeles, the Paley Center will present several dynamic entertainment events including in-person appearances by the provocative comedian George Carlin, Debra Messing, and the prolific producer of television and film, David Gerber. Also on the roster are evenings with the cast and creators of Bones, Moonlight, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Sarah Silverman Program, as well as tween faves Kyle XY and Greek. Exploring the art of storytelling through new media as well as traditional media will be a discussion with the creators and cast of Quarterlife. This season's milestone event celebration is the 35th anniversary of one of the longest-running daytime dramas, The Young & The Restless.
The L.A. season kicks off with the twenty-fifth annual William S. Television Festival (PaleyFest08) with twelve nights celebrating excellence in television including a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion with Sarah Michelle Geller and Joss Whedon; revisiting The X-Files with Chris Carter; a 40th anniversary salute to the Elvis '68 Comeback Special with Priscilla Presley; an evening with comedy genius Judd Apatow; and the cast and creative teams of Chuck, Damages, Dancing with the Stars, Dirty Sexy Money, Friday Night Lights, Gossip Girl, Mad Men, and Pushing Daisies.
