Last season’s scariest show is back and even more terrifying. When FX’s Emmy-winning American Horror Story returned for a second season with completely new characters and a new location, critics expressed doubts that it could match the spine-chilling intensity of the first. Were they ever wrong! American Horror Story: Asylum switches the first setting of modern-day Los Angeles to 1964 Massachusetts at Briarcliff Manor, a former tuberculosis ward turned institution for the criminally insane run by the oppressive Sister Jude (Jessica Lange). No one is safe at Briarcliff, where Nazis, extraterrestrials, mutants, and a serial killer called Bloody Face all lurk. Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk—whose other collaborations include GleeAmerican Horror Story: Asylum has surpassed expectations, even exceeding last year’s ratings.
