Whether in courtrooms or on online platforms, Alan Rusbridger, editor in chief of Guardian News & Media, has persevered in staunch defense of the right of the press to investigate and publish stories in the public interest. The Committee to Protect Journalists and the Paley Center for Media held a reception celebrating Rusbridger as CPJ's 2012 Burton Benjamin Memorial Awardee for lifetime achievement in the cause of press freedom on November 19th, 2012. The event included a conversation between Rusbridger and Jacob Weisberg, chairman and editor in chief of the Slate Group, on the challenges facing modern newsrooms.
