CBS CHILDREN'S HOUR: J.T. (TV)

Summary

One in this occasional series of children's dramatic programs. This drama follows the story of a young boy in Harlem, New York, who befriends a cat and learns the importance of honesty and responsibility. Hiding from two young thugs who want the radio he has just stolen, J.T. finds a sickly alley cat. When he takes the cat home, his mother refuses to let him keep it, so J.T. shelters his pet in a dilapidated building and there nurses it back to health. He skips school and buys tuna fish on his mother's grocery credit without her permission, infuriating both her and the store owner, Mr. Rosen. During a confrontation between J.T. and the thugs, who steal the radio, the cat is hit by a car and killed. The grieving boy is comforted by his grandmother, and Mr. Rosen gives J.T. a kitten, a new radio for Christmas, and a job in his grocery store. (Commercials deleted, leaving brief periods of blank tape.)
