MIKE STOKEY'S PANTOMIME QUIZ (TV)
Summary
One in this series of game/quiz programs. This
variation on the popular parlor game charades is played
by two teams of four celebrities (some of whom are
program regulars) each. Host Mike Stokey presides over
the stars. One member of the team acts out the charade
(suggested by a home viewer) while the other three
members attempt to guess the answer within two
minutes. The winning team is the one that solves the
puzzle in the least amount of time. "Pantomime Quiz"
was first produced locally for KTLA in 1947 and earned
the first Emmy award for Best Program. In this
installment Jane Nye, Robert Stack, Florence Bates, and
Dave Willock face off against Lyn Thomas, Hillary
Brooke, Walter Tetley, and Hurd Hatfield. The
celebrities often use their appearance to promote their
new projects, including Brooke, who is working on
"Stranglehold," a film about the tumultuous world of
professional wrestling. Includes commercials.
(Network and series run vary. This program aired on all
four networks at different points in the 1950s and later
went into syndication.)
