LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN {DEBRA WINGER, SOUL ASYLUM, REGIS PHILBIN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk shows hosted by David Letterman. This program features actress Debra Winger and alternative-rock group Soul Asylum. After his opening monologue, Letterman presents a remote segment in which he drives around in a rental car and harasses people by calling them on a cellular phone. Throughout "Car-Phone Night," he phones in bogus traffic reports to a radio station; persuades Regis Philbin to stand by the curb and yell at passing cars; and calls a small grocery store to inform the clerk that a strange man, Letterman himself, is outside eating their watermelons. In the Top Ten segment, Letterman introduces radio host Casey Kasem, who announces the "Numbers From One to Ten." In interview highlights, Winger discusses her fear of appearing on talk shows; Letterman plays a clip from the television series "Wonder Woman" with Winger playing Wonder Girl early in her career; and as the interview ends, Winger rips off her clothes to reveal the Wonder Girl costume and dashes off the stage. The program concludes with a performance by Soul Asylum. Commercials deleted.
