OPENING NIGHT AT THE DYNAMIC TELEVISION AND APPLIANCE STORE {65TH STREET AND BROADWAY} (TV)

Summary

This variety special is televised live from the Dynamic Appliance store on 65th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. The program opens with a trio of singers in top hats, touting the store as the "place to buy." Emcee Eloise McElhone of "Leave It to the Girls," and "Eloise Salutes the Stars" welcomes the audience and introduces the trio. Songs performed include: "Three Gay Blades," "The Band Played On," "There Is a Tavern in the Town," and other songs of the Gay Nineties; meanwhile, the names and addresses of winners of electronic appliances scroll across the screen. McElhone next introduces Joey Adams, who calls her "Louise," asks her out for a date, and flatters her with the columnists' kind words about her. She then introduces newcomer Gail Meredith, who sings "It's Been a Long, Long Time," and "Dearie, Do You Remember?" Next, the masked baritone John Norbert sings "The Song Is You." Adams returns and introduces actor Horace McMahon, who specializes in playing heavies. McElhone welcomes a performer from the upcoming musical "Tickets, Please!", Patricia Bright, who sings "Tess's Torch Song" and in a Judy Holliday voice does a comic impression of the Brooklyn girl whom the song is about. As the performers bow, announcer Bob Callan invites viewers to visit the Dynamic Appliance store and mentions that the program has been sponsored by the six Dynamic stores and the Admiral corporation.
