BARBARA WALTERS SPECIAL, THE {CANDICE BERGEN, DIANA ROSS, AUDREY HEPBURN} (TV)

Summary

One in this occasional series of interview specials, hosted by Barbara Walters. On this program, Walter's annual pre-Oscar show, Walters's guests are actress Candice Bergen, songstress Diana Ross, and movie icon and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn. The first guest, Bergen, discusses the following topics, among others: her marriage to French film director Louis Malle; how she got into comedic acting; being a beautiful woman; her relationship with her father Edgar Bergen and his ventriloquist dummy Charlie McCarthy; whether she ever made her peace with her father before his death in 1978; how she felt about her life at the age of 30; juggling a working life and a family life with her daughter Chloe Malle; and whether her father would approve of her nowadays.

The second guest, Ross, discusses the following topics, among others: the misconception about her being "a bitch"; whether she has forgotten her roots as she now lives an opulent lifestyle in Connecticut; her time as a member of The Supremes; her upcoming concert tour; taking her children with her on the road; the times in her life when her music hasn't been well received; her songs that she feels are the strongest; and to whom she addresses her lyrics. The last guest, Hepburn, discusses the following topics, among others: if she realizes how beautiful she is; why she appeals to women more than men; the "look" she created; why she is so thin; working on "Charade" with Cary Grant; dancing with Fred Astaire in "Funny Face"; her taking the role of Eliza Doolittle in the film version of "My Fair Lady," though many people at the time felt the role should have gone to Julie Andrews (who originated the role on stage); why she quit the movies; her two previous marriages; her work with UNICEF; life as a 60-year-old; her companion Robert Wolders and whether she will ever marry him; and the film by which she wishes to be remembered. Includes commercials. This program is closed-captioned.
