SKYLINE: THE KINGS OF FLATBUSH (TV)
Summary
One in this series of documentaries that focuses on the arts in New York. This program explores the history of the Kings Theater in Brooklyn, New York. The theater stands in the middle of Flatbush Avenue and was built immediately before the Depression began, serving as a reminder of a bygone era. Various former employees of the theater are interviewed, including Charles Janabell, projectionist; Harold Rambush, the original decorator; Nathan Ginsberg, violinist; and Lee Erwin, organist. Several adults who attended the theater during their childhood speak about the effects of the theater on the neighborhood. The program also features interviews with those who were employed at the theater immediately before it shut down, including Dorothy Panzica, the manager; Patricia Davidson, a candy girl; and Paul Lepelletier, an usher. The program concludes with a note indicating that the Flatbush Development Corporation has purchased the building and plans to restore the theater. (This program contains minor technical problems. This represents the best copy of this program currently available to the museum.)
