HELLO AMERICANS: THE ANDES (RADIO)
Summary
One in this series of programs about Latin America featuring Orson Welles. This program focuses on the history and geography of the Andes mountain chain and the surrounding region. As an introduction, Welles and a group of "average Americans" (Moorehead, Moore, Reed, and Wong) discuss what they know about South American geography. A narration by Welles that includes poetry by Norman Rosten links several historical features. Sketches dramatize Pizarro leading the Spanish conquistadores against the Incas of Peru, and Simon Bolivar, inspired by the American Revolution, leading the revolt against South America's Spanish rulers. Welles also discusses Bolivar's vision of a New World united by democracy, and the Christ of the Andes, a statue symbolizing peace in South America.
