SEEING EAR THEATRE PRESENTS: CLIVE BARKER'S THE HISTORY OF THE DEVIL {PT. 4 OF 5} (RADIO)
Summary
Continued from R:22310. Part four of five. One in this series of radio dramas. This religious-commentary saga features Lucifer, Jesus Christ, and a successful New York lawyer named Samuel Kyle. At Lucifer's trial, his attorney, Kyle, calls Isabelle Nyder to the stand. Yet another witness who has long since left the land of the living, Nyder testifies that it was Lucifer who saved her from the witch trials. A flashback recreates the dark, dank prison cell in which Nyder and other women are being held for allegedly practicing witchcraft. The women confront each other about the "confessions" into which they have been forced, and Nyder confides that she has turned to Satan. Shortly thereafter, Satan arrives in the cell and takes Nyder away with him. As the two fly through the sky, Nyder asks Satan to destroy the city below them, and all the life within it -- but he refuses. She becomes angry and frees herself from his grasp, falling to her death. Back in the courtroom, this story offers evidence that Lucifer chose to do the right thing. The prosecution questions him. When he begins to talk about his days in England, another flashback takes listeners to the time and place to which he refers -- England, 1799. Lucifer has built a robot follower, Jack Easter, and he offers boxing champ Daniel Mendoza a large sum of money to fight Easter. Mendoza agrees, signing a contract in blood. Lucifer expects Easter to win, and at first it looks as though he will. But after a strong start Easter suddenly drops his defenses and starts crying. Mendoza pounds him and wins the match. Lucifer is dumbfounded and angered by Easter's loss. Continues with R:22312. Commercials deleted.
