Summary
One in this series devoted to commentary by Orson Welles on current events. On this program Don Hollenbeck replaces Welles, who is ill. Hollenbeck discusses the following: a congressional compromise on measures to curb postwar inflation, which has resulted in the reimposition of some of the price controls that had been lifted a few weeks earlier; a bloody attempt at revolt in Bolivia, where the new minister of defense is a Nazi sympathizer; and the House version of the Atomic Control Bill, which entrusts greater control over atomic weapons to the military than the Senate intended. Using a fable to illustrate his point, Hollenbeck likens the governments, both American and foreign, that are hindering atomic arms control negotiations to ostriches with their heads in the sand.
