ORSON WELLES'S COMMENTARY (RADIO)

Summary

One in this series devoted to commentary by Orson Welles on current events. In this program, Welles protests against the planned closing of the Office of Price Administration (OPA), charging that lifting price controls will harm consumers. He calls for a "consumer strike" (an across-the-board boycott) during the first seven days of July. Reading a letter from a listener who seeks his advice because her husband, a returning veteran, is unable to find a job paying a living wage, Welles describes wandering through Central Park trying in vain to find an answer. In another segment, Welles praises the writing ability of Jimmy Cannon, a New York Post sports columnist.
